Millburn Football Coverage

Wish I had seen this article by Jose Ortiz of Millburnpatch.com before last night.  When you read it you'll see that there ARE people out there who know our team and give it coverage it deserves.

We'll keep supporting our boys - we need to turn things around this Friday!

High Hopes for Lopes a HUGE success

High Hopes for Lopes was a HUGE success-

Well over 500 people attended  - all bringing their hope to John Lopes in terms of gifts, prayers and donations. The Lopes family was overwhelmed with the huge showing of support.

Coach Lopes, his family and most of those present were enormously impressed that our players came all the way to Staten Island to support their cause. Many people mentioned how great it was to see the players in their jerseys - a reminder to all of Coach Lopes father who coached football for 25 years.

The Millburn football community should be proud that their players once again showed character and integrity in their support of a cause so close to the hearts of our Coach Gene Lopes and his family.

Finally a thanks to John O'Leary for his support and enthusiasm in encouraging the boys to attend.

Millburn Football Players Perform Community Service

Dear Dr. Miron,
Let me introduce myself.  My name is Jennifer Langan and I am the Executive Director at the Neighborhood Nursery School in Millburn.  On Sunday, August 23rd more than 15 Millburn High School Football players once again participated in a community service project at the Neighborhood House Nursery School in Millburn.  Whether it was painting the inside of a classroom, weeding in the community garden, or washing the large play equipment and school chairs, the boys were conscientious and polite.  The community service initiative was a huge success.  This project was arranged by Heidi Swanson, from the Football Booster Club and Rose Twombly, Executive Director of the United Way of Millburn-Short Hills.  It was a pleasure working with such fine young men.  Please see the list below for the specific students that participated.
Millburn Football Players
Ryan Bednarski, Michael Brown, Luke DeCastro, Robert DeCastro, Pat Colicchio, Vinnie Falcone
Tommy Falcon, Jake Grzeszczak, Steven Montuoro, Mac Nouich, Neal Patel, Alex Schoen, AJ Simon
Ricky Simon, Stephen Stimmler, Tim Swanson, Ben Vaccaro

AND DR MIRON'S RESPONSE BELOW:

Jennifer
Thanks for sharing this with me.  I literally can't keep track of all the many great things our students are doing outside the classroom.  We measure success in so many ways; however the character these and other students show are what I feel most proud.  We can't teach how to be a responsible citizens; fortunately, our entire community helps foster such actions.  These football players certainly went above and beyond the normal hopes for community service.  Thanks for taking the time to share this with me.
--Dr. Miron

Tuesday Night Game Films

A small crowd of us parents were treated tonight to a replay of Friday night's game, compliments of Coach Guarino & Coach Silvani. Wish we had more parents as the films were fun and Coach was able to give us a lot of pointers on the good plays they had.

Game time its tough to see what is going on on the line, but watching the films you get to really see the significant impact players such as Lex Blum, Jake Riesenberg and James Collingwood had on the game. All three had HUGE blocks on all the big offensive plays - on one play we really saw Jake pancake/flatten a defender.

As we said earlier, this team is truly a collection of young men interested in team success rather than individual success. Look at the fact that all five touchdowns were scored by five different players. The constant in all five TD plays - the big 5 lineman - Bailey, Blum, Blum, Bavosa & Riesenberg. We keep them healthy this team should go a LONG way!
